Water supply to several communities in Accra and the Tema Metropolis has been disrupted following a major burst on a 42-inch transmission pipeline.
Ghana Water Limited (GWL) said the incident occurred on Monday, January 19, 2026, affecting the eastern corridor of Accra and surrounding areas. Engineers were immediately deployed and are working round the clock to repair the damaged pipeline.
GWL explained that the size of the transmission main and the complexity of the repair require careful handling to ensure safety and durability, adding that efforts are being made to restore supply as quickly as possible.
Areas affected by the disruption include the entire Tema Metropolis, Ashaiman, Gbetsele, Akatamanso, Klagon, Lashibi, Baatsonaa, Spintex, parts of East Legon, Nungua, Teshie, and nearby communities.
The company has advised essential service providers, particularly schools and hospitals, to contact GWL for assistance during the outage.
GWL apologised for the inconvenience caused and assured customers that water supply will be restored immediately after repairs are completed. The company also said further updates will be communicated as the situation develops.
