Burna Boy makes film debut as executive producer of thriller ‘3 Cold Dishes’

Grammy-winning music star Burna Boy has officially made his debut in feature films, serving as executive producer on the upcoming thriller 3 Cold Dishes.

The film, developed under Burna Boy’s Spaceship Films — co-founded with his mother, Bose Ogulu — was shot over nearly three years across Nigeria, Benin Republic, Côte d’Ivoire, and Mauritania. It marks a bold expansion of the artist’s creative vision beyond music.

Directed by Asurf Oluseyi and written by Tomi Adesina, 3 Cold Dishes tells the gripping story of three women — Esosa, Fatouma, and Giselle — who were trafficked as teenagers and bound by shared trauma.

Two decades later, they reunite to seek revenge on the powerful men who destroyed their lives. What begins as a mission of vengeance unfolds into a profound exploration of justice, identity, and survival.

Starring Osas Ighodaro, Fat Toure, and Maud Guerard, the film’s emotional depth is grounded in weeks of character workshops inspired by real-life survivor testimonies. Its dialogue blends English, French, and Yoruba, showcasing West Africa’s rich linguistic and cultural diversity.

3 Cold Dishes is a co-production between Black Mic Mac, Ifind Pictures, Alma Productions, Asurf Films, Martian Network, and other African partners. Global studios like Azure Noir & Co and Nexthought Studios also provided technical support for the cross-border production.

The first teaser has already generated excitement ahead of its premiere. The film opens in cinemas on November 7 in Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, Kenya, and Rwanda, and will expand to Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, Benin, Togo, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo on November 28.
