Black Queens midfielder Chantelle Louise Boye-Hlorkah has shared her delight after playing a pivotal role in Ghana’s emphatic 4-1 victory over Tanzania in the ongoing 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The win, secured on Monday night at the Stade Municipal de Berkane, marked Ghana’s first in the tournament following a difficult start that included a 2-0 loss to South Africa and a 1-1 draw with Mali.

Reflecting on her performance, Boye-Hlorkah—who scored a goal and was named Woman of the Match—expressed satisfaction with her role on the pitch.

“Today, I was in a comfortable role. I like the wing, but I like being involved more in my natural position,” she said.
“I am glad to have played a little bit everywhere—a more familiar role for myself. I am so happy.”

The England-born midfielder, who made her tournament debut for Ghana this year, was quick to credit her teammates and head coach Kim Lars Björkegren for the collective effort.

“The award could have been given to any of my teammates. I want to thank the coach for playing me in this position, my teammates, and the staff for the support,” she added with a beaming smile after the game.

Goals from Princella Adubea, Alice Kusi, Evelyn Badu, and Boye-Hlorkah secured the victory, propelling the Black Queens to second place in Group C and sealing a spot in the quarterfinals.

Ghana will now prepare for a knockout showdown against Algeria, set for Saturday, July 19, at the Stade Municipal de Berkane. Kickoff is at 17:00 GMT.
