
Ghanaian boxer Ernest Akushey, popularly known in the ring as ‘Bahubali’, has died from complications sustained during his last fight against Jacob Dickson at the Bukom Boxing Arena.
The 29-year-old was stopped in the eighth round of the September 13 super middleweight contest and was later admitted to the LEKMA Hospital, where he was treated for internal bleeding. Despite days of medical care, he passed away 12 days later.
Akushey ended his professional career with eight fights, recording six victories. He competed across the super middleweight and light heavyweight divisions, earning a reputation for his fearless style and crowd-pleasing showmanship.
His ring name, ‘Bahubali’, inspired by the legendary movie character, reflected his fighting spirit and resilience.
His passing has reignited debate over safety standards in Ghanaian boxing, with fresh calls for stricter medical checks and improved post-fight care for athletes.
