The Bono East Regional Security Council (RESEC) has stepped in to calm tensions in Gulumpe, where violent clashes between Gonja and Konkomba youth over the past three days have left several people injured.
The conflict reportedly began after a misunderstanding over which group had the right to load a bag of charcoal onto a truck — a dispute that quickly escalated into a bloody confrontation.
Regional Minister Francis Owusu Antwi, who led the engagement with the feuding groups, expressed optimism that the dialogue will help restore peace and prevent further violence.
“We are confident that after today’s discussions, calm will be restored. We must all work together to maintain peace in Gulumpe,” the minister said.
Also present was Buipewura Jinapor II, Vice Chairman of the National House of Chiefs and Paramount Chief of Buipe, who blamed the recurring clashes on poverty and unemployment among the youth.
“Most of these violent incidents are rooted in economic hardship. We must focus on creating opportunities for our young people,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Bono East Regional Police Commander has assured that security personnel will enforce any curfew declared in the area if the situation escalates.
Authorities are urging residents to remain calm as peace efforts continue in the Gulumpe township and its surrounding communities.
