The Acting Managing Director of FGR/Blue Gold, Yiadom Boakye Amponsah, has called on the government to either restore the company’s mining lease for the Bogoso-Prestea Mine or provide due compensation.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Amponsah accused the Minerals Commission and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources of unlawfully transferring the mine’s ownership to Heath Goldfields Limited without following due process.
He said the revocation of Blue Gold’s lease in September 2024 was unjust, as the company was still the legitimate leaseholder when Heath Goldfields was allowed to assume control of the concession.
He insisted that the company’s mining rights should be reinstated or it should be “duly compensated,” emphasising that the law provides for such redress.
“If there are financial or technical issues, and companies are taking mining licenses in this country, then it will be significant. Some companies with mining leases are even involved in illegal mining activities, known as galamsey. I have been in mining for 42 years, and if the ministry had done what they were supposed to, this situation would not have occurred. We want our mining leases restored or to be duly compensated, as the laws support that,” he said.
