In a bold and visionary move to support their alma mater, the 1994, 1995, and 1996 year groups of Accra Academy—collectively known as “Bleoo 94, 95, and 96”—have broken ground for the construction of a three-storey, 18-unit classroom block as a joint legacy project.

The sod-cutting ceremony, held on Saturday, August 2, marks the beginning of what the groups describe as a “blueprint for the future growth of Accra Academy.

The estimated cost of the classroom block is pegged at Ten Million Ghana Cedis (GH¢10,000,000), with One Million Ghana Cedis (GH¢1,000,000) required to complete the foundation alone, according to project leads.

The initiative is a direct response to several critical infrastructural challenges facing Accra Academy, including:

  • Classroom deficit – An estimated need for 36 to 56 additional classrooms

  • Dormitory shortage – At least two more dormitory blocks required

  • Canteen space – Inadequate dining facilities

  • Teacher accommodation – To support and retain quality teaching staff

  • Assembly hall capacity – Existing facility no longer meets student population needs

The groups say the current learning environment is inadequate and unconducive for effective teaching and learning. Their collective intervention aims to address these pressing concerns through what they describe as an “ambitious legacy project.”

According to members of the Bleoo ’94, ’95, and ’96 year groups, this project is more than just a building—it is a symbol of gratitude, unity, and a lasting commitment to giving back to the institution that helped shape their lives.

Call for Support

The three year groups are appealing to all past students, stakeholders, and well-meaning Ghanaians to contribute financially and logistically to ensure the timely completion of the project.

The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, who was present at the sod-cutting ceremony, pledged his support and expressed commitment to helping make the project a reality.
