The Chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee, Dr. Randy Abbey, has confirmed that the Ghana national team will begin preparations for the upcoming Unity Cup on Sunday, May 25.
Ghana is scheduled to face long-time rivals Nigeria in the semifinals of the tournament on May 28 at the Gtech Community Stadium in London.
The winner of that clash will go on to meet either Trinidad and Tobago or Jamaica in the final, set for May 31 at the same venue.
Despite the ongoing seasons for many Ghanaian players across Europe’s top leagues, Dr. Abbey shared key details about the team’s schedule during an interview with 3Sports.
“We had a meeting with the management committee, and the team will assemble in London on the 25th,” he said.
“They would have three training sessions before the first game on the 28th against Nigeria,” he added.
Touching on squad availability, Dr. Abbey noted several challenges facing the team.
“There are quite a number of players who are injured. There are a few players who are also engaged in qualifying games for Europe, and so their clubs won’t release them. Mind you, this period is outside the FIFA free period.
“And so, for those whose leagues will still be in session, and they are still in contention, they might not be available, plus the injured players,” he added.
The Unity Cup fixtures serve as a key part of Ghana’s preparations for their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.
The Black Stars will resume qualifiers in September with games against Chad and Mali, before wrapping up with fixtures against Comoros and the Central African Republic in October.
