Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director, Henry Asante Twum, has confirmed that the Black Stars will take part in a high-profile friendly match next year as they gear up for the 2026 World Cup.

The Black Stars discovered their group-stage opponents on Friday, December 5, for the tournament, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico next summer.

Speaking on preparations ahead of the global event, Asante Twum revealed that Ghana is in talks to face a prominent European side in a friendly.

“We are likely to have a highly European-friendly. Even before the draw, we had received some requests from some of the big houses even before we play against South Korea and Japan, we had some European teams writing to us to check if indeed we will be in a good place to play so what we have to do now is look at all the possibilities and which one be benefitial to us and then we will go for it,” he told 3Sports.

Ghana has been drawn in Group L alongside England, Panama, and Croatia. Their World Cup campaign begins against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, followed by a clash with England on June 23 in Boston, and concludes with a match against 2018 finalists Croatia on June 27 in Philadelphia.

After a group-stage exit in Qatar four years ago, the Black Stars are determined to progress further in North America.
