Osei Kofi has thrown his support behind a potential return for Kwesi Appiah following the dismissal of Otto Addo.
The Ghana Football Association is currently searching for a new head coach after parting ways with the 50-year-old on Monday, opening the door for a fresh appointment ahead of upcoming international fixtures.
GFA President Kurt Okraku revealed that interest in the role has been overwhelming, with more than 600 applications submitted by both local and foreign coaches. A new manager is expected to be named within the next two weeks.
Speaking to Citi Sports, Osei Kofi insisted that Appiah’s deep understanding of the local game gives him a clear advantage over foreign candidates.
“If we bring a white coach, the person will have to first come and understudy, but for Kwesi Appiah, he knows our brand of football already. It will help Ghana if we go and beg him to come back,” he said.
The former forward also highlighted what he sees as the team’s core problem — a lack of unity despite an abundance of individual talent.
“God has blessed Ghana with a lot of talents. Right now we have players, but we don’t have a team,” he added.
The Black Stars are expected to regroup in May for international friendlies against Mexico on May 22 and Wales on June 2, as part of preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana will be making their fifth appearance at the tournament and have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama, with hopes of reaching the knockout stage for the first time since their memorable run in 2010.
