Black Satellites assistant coach anticipates tough challenge in WAFU U-20 tournament

-

The Black Satellites’ assistant coach, Fatawu Salifu, has warned of a difficult challenge ahead as Ghana gears up for the WAFU Zone B U-20 Cup of Nations, set to take place from July 10 to 23, 2025.

Ghana has been drawn into Group A alongside regional rivals Nigeria and Benin.

Speaking to the Ghana Football Association’s media team, Salifu acknowledged the strength of the group and the intensity of the upcoming matches.

“We have been waiting keenly to see which countries we would face in the group stage, and just today, we got the information that the draw has been done — and we got Nigeria and Benin in our group,” the former Heart of Lions coach said.

“Which I think is a typical WAFU group. When Ghana and Nigeria are in the same group, we normally expect a very tough competition.

“So, Ghana, Benin and Nigeria — I think it’s a very good group, and of course, all we have to do is to beat these two countries and qualify.”

Following their recent elimination from the U-20 AFCON qualifiers after a quarter-final loss to Egypt, Salifu said the team is focused on bouncing back.

“After exiting Egypt, we returned home and came straight into camp. We have a tournament at hand, and we believe it’s time to redeem our image,” he added.
