Black Queens to play three friendlies in Morocco ahead of 2024 WAFCON

The Black Queens of Ghana will ramp up their preparations for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) with three international friendlies in Morocco.

The team, currently in Morocco for pre-tournament training, is set to face Malawi, Botswana, and Nigeria in a series of warm-up matches ahead of the continental showpiece, scheduled for next month.

According to the Ghana Football Association (GFA), the Queens will take on Malawi on Saturday, June 21, before facing Botswana on Wednesday, June 25. Their final test will be against rivals Nigeria on Saturday, June 29.

Botswana and Nigeria have both qualified for the tournament and are drawn in Group B, along with Tunisia and Algeria.

Before arriving in Morocco, head coach Kim Lars Björkegren’s side played friendly matches against Ivory Coast and Senegal as part of their build-up.

Ghana, making their first WAFCON appearance since 2018, will compete in Group C alongside South Africa, Mali, and Tanzania.

The 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations is scheduled to run from July 5 to July 26 in Morocco.
