Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren has praised his players after guiding Ghana to the quarterfinals of the ongoing 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The Queens bounced back from a shaky start to the tournament with a convincing 4-1 victory over Tanzania in their final Group C encounter on Monday night at the Stade Municipal de Berkane.
Princella Adubea, Alice Kusi, Evelyn Badu, and Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah all found the back of the net to secure a dominant win and seal second place in the group standings.
Speaking after the game, the Swedish tactician expressed his delight at the team’s response and the significance of the result.
“I am just really proud of the girls. Today, we followed the game plan a little bit more. I always believed that we would win this game and make it to the quarterfinals,” Björkegren told CAF Media.
“I understand the impact of the result. It is the knockout stages, and we continue to take it one game at a time,” he added.
Ghana will now take on Algeria in the quarterfinals on Saturday, July 19, at the Stade Municipal de Berkane. Kick-off is scheduled for 17:00 GMT.
