Black Queens coach Kim Björkegren sets ambitious target ahead of 2025 WAFCON

-

Head coach of the Black Queens, Kim Lars Björkegren, has expressed his ambition to lead Ghana’s national women’s team deep into the upcoming 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Ghana, returning to the tournament for the first time since 2018, have been drawn into Group C, where they will face a challenging lineup including reigning champions South Africa, Mali, and Tanzania.

The Black Queens will kick off their campaign against South Africa on July 7 at the Honneur Stadium in Oudja.

“Our goal is to go as far as possible in WAFCON. This is a step for us,” he told the Ghana FA website.

“Sometimes the step goes in the right direction, and sometimes it doesn’t. But we need to keep moving and getting better every single day. That’s more important than the results today,” he added.

Following their opener, Ghana will face Mali on July 12 and then Tanzania on July 17. Both matches will be played at the Berkane Stadium.

In preparation for the tournament, the Black Queens played out a thrilling 3-3 draw with Côte d’Ivoire’s Les Éléphants on Friday night.

The two teams are scheduled to meet again on Tuesday, June 3, at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny.
