Black Queens coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren has hinted at possible squad changes in the upcoming friendly matches as part of preparations for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
This follows Ghana’s impressive 3-0 win over Malawi in their opening warm-up fixture on Saturday.
Several players are yet to join camp due to ongoing club commitments, but that is expected to change by June 23—the official deadline for player release for international competitions.
Speaking after the victory, Bjorkegren noted that the incoming players will increase competition for places and could lead to lineup changes in the next games.
“We are still missing a few players who are with club teams… there will be another six or seven players to add to this squad, so there will potentially be some rotations in the future. But our strength is that we have so many good players that we can change two or three and still keep the quality,” he said.
The Black Queens are scheduled to face Benin on Wednesday before wrapping up their pre-tournament fixtures with a match against Nigeria.
Ghana is aiming to make a strong impression at the tournament, having missed out on the last two editions since their last appearance in 2018.
