Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren says his side is determined to end their 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign on a high when they take on South Africa in the third-place playoff.
Ghana missed out on a place in the final after a heartbreaking 4-2 loss on penalties to hosts Morocco, following a 1-1 draw after extra time.
Defending champions South Africa also failed to progress, falling 2-1 to Nigeria in the other semifinal.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference ahead of Friday’s clash, Bjorkegren acknowledged the disappointment of missing the final but said the team has regrouped and is ready for the challenge.
“We had a group of coaches, staff members, and players who were really disappointed, but [we’re] back on track again and focused on the next game,” the Swedish coach said.
“We want to do the best we can to win it,” he added.
The match between the Black Queens and Banyana Banyana is scheduled for Friday, July 25, at the Stade Larbi Zaouli, with kickoff at 19:00 GMT.
