Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren is optimistic about his team’s chances at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), despite being viewed as underdogs.

Ghana will open their tournament campaign today against reigning champions South Africa at the Honneur Stadium.

Having returned to WAFCON for the first time since 2018, the Black Queens are eager to make a strong impression.

Coach Bjorkegren expressed confidence in his squad’s ability to challenge the favourites.

“Of course, we know that we are a little bit of an underdog or a dark horse,” he told CAF media. “We are not one of the biggest favourites to people, but I know that we have the quality in this group to beat all of the teams in this tournament.

“I think we can have a really good chance to be successful,” he added.

The match is set to kick off at 16:00 GMT.
