Black Queens begin WAFCON preparations with convincing win over Malawi

Ghana’s Black Queens kicked off their preparations for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) with a commanding 3-1 win against Malawi on Saturday at the Ziaida Complex in Benslimane, Morocco.

Malawi opened the scoring in the 15th minute through a well-executed free kick by Sani Tendai, giving the Scorchers an early advantage.

However, Ghana responded swiftly. Just eight minutes later, Alice Kusi was brought down in the box, and Doris Boaduwaa stepped up to confidently convert the resulting penalty to level the score.

Boaduwaa struck again in the 31st minute, capitalizing on a loose ball at the edge of the penalty area and firing home a powerful effort to hand the Black Queens the lead.

Ghana continued to dominate proceedings, and in the 83rd minute, Princella Adubea made a dazzling run down the left wing and delivered a pinpoint cross that Boaduwaa headed in to seal her hat-trick and Ghana’s victory.

Head coach Nora Häuptle made four changes to the squad that drew with Côte d’Ivoire last month.

Notably, Nancy Amoh of Ampem Darkoa earned her first international start, while Princella Adubea returned to her preferred position on the right flank, playing a crucial role in the attacking third.

The Black Queens will return to action on Wednesday, June 25, when they face Benin, following Botswana’s withdrawal from the competition.

The match will serve as another valuable test for Ghana as they continue fine-tuning their squad ahead of WAFCON.
