Ghana’s Black Galaxies suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to South Africa in an international friendly on Tuesday.
The match served as preparation for both sides, with the Bafana Bafana fine-tuning ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, while Ghana assessed their readiness for the 2026 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers.
Ghana, under coach Kasim Mingle, produced a disciplined and energetic first-half performance, keeping the hosts at bay and ending the opening 45 minutes goalless.
South Africa increased their intensity after the break, and in the 56th minute, Sipho Mbule calmly slotted home to give the hosts the lead.
The Black Galaxies responded with determination, creating several clear-cut chances and striking the woodwork twice. The South African goalkeeper also made a crucial save to deny a goal-bound effort.
Despite sustained pressure in the closing stages, Ghana could not find an equaliser, leaving the match 1-0 in favour of South Africa.
The result provides a confidence boost for the hosts ahead of AFCON, while Ghana can draw lessons and encouragement from their performance as they prepare for upcoming competitive fixtures.
