Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren has commended his players for their remarkable togetherness following a crucial 4-1 victory over Tanzania at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Ghana endured a tough start to the tournament, losing 2-0 to South Africa and drawing 1-1 with Mali. However, the team bounced back impressively in their final Group C match on Monday night at the Stade Municipal de Berkane.

The emphatic win secured Ghana’s place in the quarterfinals of the competition currently underway in Morocco.

Speaking after the game, Björkegren underscored the team’s unity as key to their success.

“We played as a team, and this has been important for us on and off the pitch,” the Swiss tactician said.

Goals from Princella Adubea, Alice Kusi, Evelyn Badu, and Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah sealed the dominant win for Ghana, who finished second in their group.

The Black Queens will now face Algeria in the quarterfinals on Saturday, July 19, at the Stade Municipal de Berkane. Kick-off is at 17:00 GMT.
