Residents and traders in Bibiani, located in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region, are expressing deep concern over a large heap of abandoned refuse that has taken over sections of the local market, posing serious health risks.
Suburbs such as New Town and Nantwikumye have been particularly affected, with market women lamenting that the stench and unhygienic conditions are driving customers away.
“We sell food here, and people are afraid to come near because of the foul smell. We’re also worried about possible disease outbreaks,” a trader told Adom News.
Assemblyman for the New Town Electoral Area, Samuel Kwagyire, acknowledged the gravity of the situation, revealing that he has reported the issue to municipal authorities.
He assured residents that plans are underway to evacuate the refuse but urged the public to refrain from dumping waste on the ground, especially when designated containers remain unused.
Despite these assurances, the growing heap continues to spark anxiety among residents, who are calling for urgent intervention to prevent a potential public health crisis.
