Chief Executive Officer of Bibiani Gold Stars, Akwasi Adu, has praised the individuals funding Ghana Premier League (GPL) clubs, calling them “magicians” for keeping the competition alive despite ongoing sponsorship challenges.
The 2024/25 GPL season is set to conclude without a headline sponsor, placing significant financial strain on the league’s 18 clubs.
Despite this, Adu applauded the relentless efforts of club managers and financiers who continue to ensure matches are played week in and week out.
“I should say this on behalf of all 18 Premier League clubs: the managers and financiers are magicians. Travelling across all regional boundaries without a sponsor is very difficult. We are all hoping to resolve this situation as quickly as possible,” Adu told Citi Sports.
Adu also revealed that Bibiani Gold Stars are actively pursuing sponsorship opportunities ahead of the next season.
The club, enjoying a strong campaign, currently sits atop the league table with 54 points.
“The competitive nature of this year’s title race, despite the challenges, should attract potential sponsors. We hope this will be a turning point for local football.”
Meanwhile, Bibiani Gold Stars—currently second in the standings—will aim to reclaim top spot when they host Asante Kotoko next weekend at DUN’s Park.
