Former Member of Parliament for Afram Plains North and former National Coordinator for Recreational and Wellness, Betty Krosbi Mensah, has announced her intention to contest the position of National Women Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), subject to the party’s official guidelines and the opening of nominations.
In a statement, Mrs Krosbi Mensah said her decision followed extensive consultations and engagements with the grassroots of the party across all 16 regions of Ghana.
She said the consultations involved party structures, Members of Parliament, women’s groups, grassroots activists, former women organisers, party elders, cadres, constituency and branch executives, as well as other stakeholders committed to the ideals of the NDC.
According to her, the engagements had given her a deeper understanding of the hopes, concerns and aspirations of women and the wider membership of the party.
“These engagements have been deeply inspiring and have provided me with a clearer understanding of the hope, concerns, aspirations, and expectations of our women and the wider party membership,” she said.
Mrs Krosbi Mensah said she had listened to the concerns of party members and received valuable counsel on the direction they believe the NDC Women’s Wing should take.
She stressed that her decision to contest was not motivated by personal ambition but by a renewed commitment to serve the party.
“With my experience as a former Member of Parliament, my service as a former Senior Technical Advisor to the Minister of Sports and Recreation, and my years of dedication to the NDC, I believe I can contribute meaningfully to strengthening our women’s movement and advancing the ideals of our party,” she stated.
She described women as the “backbone” of the NDC, saying their sacrifices, resilience, commitment and loyalty had sustained the party through difficult periods and electoral victories.
She said women deserved leadership that listens to them, organises them, recognises their contributions, builds their capacity and creates opportunities for them at all levels of the party.
Vision for NDC Women’s Wing
Outlining her vision, she said she would seek to build a united, inclusive and stronger Women’s Wing focused on effective mobilisation, recognition of women’s contributions, capacity building and empowerment initiatives aimed at promoting economic development and improving livelihoods.
“I believe every woman deserves representation, every voice deserves to be heard, and every contribution deserves recognition,” she said.
She added that collective effort could help create a Women’s Wing where members feel valued, supported and empowered to contribute meaningfully to the growth of the NDC and the development of Ghana.
Ms Crosby Mensah therefore appealed to delegates to consider her candidacy when the party officially opens nominations.
“I therefore humbly seek the trust, confidence, and support of delegates when the party opens nominations as we work together to build a more vibrant Women’s Wing and a stronger National Democratic Congress,” she said.
She expressed confidence that unity, dedication and a shared commitment to service could help the party write “a new chapter of progress and prosperity” for the NDC and Ghana.
