Berekum Chelsea anticipating tough game against Kotoko in 2025/26 GHPL opener

Asante Kotoko

Communications Director of Berekum Chelsea, Isaac Obeng, has acknowledged the daunting challenge that awaits his side as they prepare to face Asante Kotoko in the opening fixture of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.

The Blues will host the Porcupine Warriors at the Golden City Park in what promises to be a thrilling start to the new campaign.

Speaking to Luv FM, Obeng admitted that taking on Kotoko is no easy task, especially considering the Kumasi-based club’s impressive squad ahead of the new season.

“After I saw the fixture against Kotoko, I called Coach Samuel Boadu to discuss it, and he feels the same way we all feel — that the game will be very difficult,” Obeng said. “Looking at their recruitment, I can say Asante Kotoko is the best team in Ghana right now.”

Obeng also disclosed that Berekum Chelsea have relocated to Kumasi to step up preparations ahead of the crucial clash.

“The team left Berekum yesterday for Kumasi. We told them that the preparations in Kumasi must be intense because our first three games are not easy at all,” he noted.

“We are hoping to beat Asante Kotoko, even though we know it will be a very difficult game in Berekum,” he added.

The 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season is scheduled to kick off on the weekend of September 12, 2025, and conclude on the weekend of May 23–24, 2026.
