The Krontihene of the Bejamse Traditional Area in the Krachi Nchumuru District of the Oti Region, Nana Kwabena Wiri II, has appealed to all chiefs and elders within the traditional area to unite in order to promote development.

Speaking at a durbar to climax the 2025 annual Kponwiae Sonkor Festival, celebrated under the theme “Culture, Our Heritage,” Nana Wiri II emphasized that the institution of chieftaincy among the Nchumuru people was established to regulate societal affairs and lead communal progress.

He expressed concern over prolonged chieftaincy disputes in the area, which he said had caused divisions and mistrust among the people. According to him, chiefs serve as custodians of culture and should be at the forefront of mobilizing communities for development projects.

The Krontihene also used the occasion to call on the government to address pressing developmental challenges facing the Krachi Nchumuru District.

Delivering a speech on behalf of the Oti Regional Minister, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Krachi West, Hon. Prosper Kwaku Addo, commended the chiefs and elders of Bejamse for their efforts in organizing the festival.

He echoed the Krontihene’s call for unity, stressing that development cannot be achieved without a united front. Hon. Addo further noted that while the government will play its part, support from NGOs, philanthropists, and stakeholders will only come if there is peace and collaboration within the traditional area.

He assured the people of Bejamse and the entire Krachi Nchumuru District of the government’s commitment to equitable development across the region.
