Interim coach of Asante Kotoko, Karim Zito, has urged the club’s supporters to prioritise winning above all else, rather than expecting an attractive style of play.
Zito takes over from Prosper Narteh Ogum, who was dismissed following a string of disappointing results.
Kotoko are currently without a win in their last four matches and sit 4th in the league standings with 47 points.
The experienced coach, known for his success with the Black Satellites, is now tasked with turning the club’s fortunes around.
“Fans must be content with only winning,” Zito said at his unveiling in Kumasi on Wednesday, April 23.
“All we are after is to win, to see us back [on top]. It’s not about ‘fine, fine’ football now. It’s about who wins. And this is what we are going to struggle to do.”
He also revealed a specific target: “[Operation] 18 points, and I like tackling match after match,” he added.
Zito’s first test in charge will be on Sunday, as Kotoko face off against rivals Aduana FC at the Baba Yara Stadium for Matchday 29.
The seasoned coach joins Kotoko after guiding Dreams FC to a historic CAF Confederation Cup semi-final and leading Ghana’s U-20 team to victory in the 2021 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations.
