Former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has pledged to transform every regional capital into a duty-free zone if elected president in the 2026 general elections.
Addressing supporters during his campaign tour of the Ashanti Region on Thursday, September 10, Dr. Bawumia said the policy would boost businesses and create sustainable jobs across the country.
“Currently, in Accra, there’s only one duty-free zone in Tema, but I will change that. Every regional capital—Kumasi, Takoradi, and the rest—will have a duty-free zone,” he stated.
According to him, the initiative would provide businesses with greater opportunities to expand and employ more people.
“This will help businesses grow and create jobs. I have already shown what I can do, and I am ready to do even more if given the mandate,” Dr. Bawumia assured.
