Bawumia mourns victims of Newtown building collapse, commends rescue team

Former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic building collapse at Accra New Town, which has resulted in loss of lives and injuries.

Three people—a male and two females—have died, while 20 others are receiving treatment.

In a statement, Dr. Bawumia said he received news of the incident with great sadness, noting that the building, believed to have been used for Christian worship, collapsed earlier in the day.

He extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, praying for the souls of those who lost their lives. “May the lives lost rest in peace, and my deepest sympathy goes to the families,” he stated.

Dr. Bawumia also expressed hope for those still trapped, urging that they be rescued safely, and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

He commended emergency responders for their swift action, acknowledging the tireless work of rescue teams at the scene.

The collapse has sparked widespread concern, with rescue operations ongoing as authorities work to account for all victims and determine the cause of the incident.
