Member of Parliament for Tano North, Gideon Boako, has rejected suggestions that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia should be sidelined in future New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership contests due to his defeat in the 2024 presidential election.
According to Boako, losing one election should not mark the end of a politician’s career.
“The downfall of a man is never the end of his life. He is not the first to lose an election. Others tried, failed, but continued with determination until they won. He believes that if others succeeded after several attempts, he can also succeed, with God on his side,” Boako said.
Speaking on Accra-based Citi FM, Dr. Boako, who also serves as Technical Advisor and Spokesperson to Dr. Bawumia, highlighted that many Ghanaian political leaders, including John Agyekum Kufuor, John Atta Mills, Nana Akufo-Addo, and John Mahama, experienced electoral setbacks before eventually becoming president.
Boako argued that rather than discouraging Dr. Bawumia, the NPP should support him, emphasizing that persistence has always been key to political success in Ghana.
“He equally believes that, if Kufuor tried once, twice, and made it; Akufo-Addo tried multiple times and made it; Mills tried multiple times and made it; and John Mahama also tried multiple times and made it, why should he sit back?
“He also thinks God will be on his side. He will try again, and he can make it such that he can deliver to Ghana what he thinks God has given him,” he added.
