The office of former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has confirmed that he and his wife, Samira Bawumia, are safe and in good health in Mecca, following reports suggesting they had been evacuated from Doha.
In a statement issued by his special aide, Akbar Khomeini, the former vice president was described as “fine and safe,” with the statement clarifying that the couple’s travel was part of a planned religious pilgrimage.

According to the statement, the Bawumias left Doha on Wednesday for Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah, an Islamic pilgrimage that can be undertaken at any time of the year.
They began the pilgrimage on Thursday, March 5, and are expected to depart Saudi Arabia on March 7 before returning to Ghana over the weekend.
The clarification comes amid public concern triggered by media reports linking their departure from Qatar to heightened tensions in the Middle East.
