Ban politicians from seeking medical care abroad – MP

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Amenfi Central, Peter Kwakye-Ackah has called on Parliament to consider making a legislation that will bar politicians from traveling abroad to seek medical attention at the expense of the state.
This legislation, the MP speaking on Adom FM’s Morning Show, ‘Dwaso Nsem’ is to force politicians to develop the country’s healthcare system to respond to all emergencies.
“I wish Parliament will pass a law that will bar President, his Vice and politicians from traveling abroad to seek media attention when they are sick…,” he said.
The MP who sympathized with the Vice President who, according to information from the Flagstaff House has been taken ill and has been seeking medical attention said a well-developed will help avoid what he described as ‘needless’ deaths in the country.
Reports indicate that the Vice President has been flown out of the country in the company of his wife, Samira Bawumia upon the advice of his medical doctors.
Information Minister, Mustapha Hamid however says the Veep had to travel out not for any reason but for the fact that, he needed to stay away for a while and have a rest.
“When he is in Ghana, people will come from all part of the country to visit him. Even me, I will try and visit him if he was in the country. Normally, when you are outside reach, then you are able to rest properly and have a total recovery”, he stated
The MP however said the situation of flying abroad for medical care can be avoided if the country’s medical system is developed to cater for all.
“It has become a normal practice but if we continue like this, then we are developing an animal farm…the solution is that we should put up medical hospitals to care for everyone including our top politicians,” he said.

  1. Why was this statement not made by the ndc when prof Mills went for medical care abroad when he was president? Hypocrites , by your fruits you all will be known.

  2. Developing our medical care system in the country to reach the standard in the advanced countries is of paramount importance and a good advice but to make a law forbiding politicians from flying abroad for medical care when the former is not achieved will be unwise and catastrophal. We need our able politicians as well as the citizens alive so the healthcare system should be developed but until it is completed nobody should be debared from health care abroad.

  3. Hon. I support your suggestion, if all Ghanaian politicians believe in Ghana they should make everything in Ghana better, including our health care system.
They are voted into office to make Ghana better for us all to enjoy. They must not continue to treat us the citizens like people of no importance.

  4. This is empty talk, you can’t force someone to seek treatment where he or she does not like.Local Mp you need to learn more,, Patient has right. so therefore you cant force them to seek treatment at where he does not like.
Mr. Local mp will you also seek treatment in the chps centre in ur village? this useless shit must stop.
