Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, has announced his intention to contest the Ayawaso East parliamentary seat, emphasizing that his focus is on serving his constituents directly.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen show, Baba Jamal said that while his current diplomatic role allows him to serve the nation, returning to Parliament would give him a greater opportunity to impact the lives of residents in the constituency.

“I will contest for the Ayawaso seat. I began my political journey in 2017 and ran again in 2022, finishing second in my first attempt. In 2024, I invested even more than Naza, our party’s candidate. I distributed 22 motorbikes to coordinators and led the campaign effort to secure victory for our party,” he said.

Baba Jamal highlighted his community initiatives, including the establishment of the Mahama Center, which provides legal counseling, and an interest-free loan program for women that has benefited over 400 individuals since February last year.

He stressed that his decision to seek the parliamentary seat is motivated by service rather than personal gain.

“I appreciate my appointment as an ambassador, as it allows me to serve the nation, but I believe returning to Parliament will enable me to directly support my community. We need to change the development narrative in Nima. Some may question my motives, but my lifelong ties to Nima demonstrate my commitment. Representing my constituents in Parliament would have a greater impact than any material benefits,” he added.

The Electoral Commission has scheduled the Ayawaso East parliamentary by-election for Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
