The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for the Ayawaso East Constituency, Baba Jamal Mohammed, has appeared before a party committee investigating allegations of vote-buying during the party’s recent parliamentary primaries.
In a statement to the media on Monday, February 9, 2026, Baba Jamal confirmed that he honoured an invitation from the committee, chaired by Mr Kofi Totobi Quakyi, to assist with investigations into claims of inducement at the primaries held last Saturday.
He said he firmly denied any involvement in vote-buying or attempts to influence delegates, describing the allegations as unfounded.
Baba Jamal noted that he has previously contested two parliamentary primaries in the Ayawaso East Constituency and lost on both occasions to the late Member of Parliament, adding that he accepted those outcomes in good faith and in the interest of party unity.
Reflecting on the primaries ahead of the 2024 general elections, he disclosed that he polled 309 votes against the eventual winner’s 452 votes, stressing that his political journey in the constituency has been guided by integrity and respect for the party’s democratic processes.
According to him, his growing support among party members in Ayawaso East stems from sustained engagement, developmental initiatives, and a shared vision for improved representation in Parliament.
He expressed appreciation to the committee for the opportunity to present his side of the matter and thanked delegates in the constituency for the confidence they have placed in him to lead the party into the upcoming by-election.
Baba Jamal reiterated his commitment to the NDC and pledged to work with all stakeholders to promote unity, strengthen the party’s fortunes, and advance development in the Ayawaso East Constituency.
