The Awutu Senya West District Assembly, led by District Chief Executive (DCE) Kalala Nyamekye and Member of Parliament Gizella Tetteh, has cleared over 60 years’ worth of refuse dumps in six communities to prevent cholera, malaria, and other airborne diseases in the district.
Residents in the affected communities have expressed relief after the Assembly removed the longstanding waste piles.

The communities that benefited from the cleanup include Awutu Bereku, Awutu Obrachire, Akufo-Krodua, Adawukwa Papaase, and Awutu Bontrase.

Speaking to Adom News, DCE Kalala Nyamekye revealed that the Assembly has also provided skip containers to all six communities to prevent indiscriminate dumping of waste.
He further urged residents to stop polluting the environment, warning that the Assembly will soon enforce the sanitation by-law to protect public health. “Anyone found violating the law will be arrested,” he cautioned.

Meanwhile, the Chief of Awutu Adawukwa and other local opinion leaders commended the efforts of DCE Kalala Nyamekye and MP Gizella Tetteh.
They highlighted that the communities had suffered from bad odors for years, which contributed to widespread health issues among residents.
