The community of Awuroso in the Adansi South District is facing a looming disaster as the Junior High School (JHS) block continues to deteriorate, posing a serious threat to the lives of students and teachers.
Concerned about the safety of his people, the Chief of Awuroso, Nana Otieku Baah, has made a passionate appeal to the government, NGOs, and other stakeholders to urgently intervene by constructing a new school block and rehabilitating the main road linking the community to Amudrase.
In an interview with Adom News, the chief expressed fears that the crumbling school structure could collapse at any time, endangering the lives of innocent children. He also emphasized the need to fix the poor road network, particularly the stretch between Amudrase and Awuroso, which hampers the movement of residents—especially pregnant women seeking healthcare.
According to the chief, Awuroso is a major cocoa-producing community, and improved roads would not only boost economic activity but also make it easier to transport cocoa beans to depots.
The headteacher of Awuroso D/A JHS, James Zado, also joined the call, appealing to authorities to construct a new classroom block to ensure a safe and conducive environment for teaching and learning. He further pleaded for the provision of teachers’ accommodation to help attract and retain qualified staff in the community.
Both the chief and the school authorities stress that immediate action is needed to prevent potential tragedy and improve educational and economic prospects in Awuroso.
