Johnson Asiedu Nketia, General Secretary, NDC

General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is accusing the government of misusing the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to intimidate the NDC and frustrate its activities.

Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, Wednesday following the arrest and subsequent release of its party chairman, Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, the outspoken general secretary said his chairman’s arrest was unnecessary.

According to him, they resisted the CID’s call at first because the CID failed to involve the court, a situation he says shows how the CID had been unpopular.

“The CID is just being used by government and it hurts so much because they are only taking orders from government led by the CID boss. When we got there yesterday, they asked all the questions they wanted answers to and so we are waiting for the next action,” he added.

Mr Nketia said officials of the CID searched the premises of the national chairman for evidence.

“They have taken all his communication gadgets and we have offered to give them the password because we don’t have anything to hide,” he noted.
