General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia is suggesting that the Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Mike Ocquaye goes for eye checkup if he is finding it difficult to locate Members of Parliament (MP) on the floor during debate.

His suggestion follows claims that a reason for the new 450-seater Chamber is to ensure all MPs catch the eye of the Speaker.

But, the unpopular decision has sparked public outrage with many lacing their boots to demonstrate over the matter.

Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem programme, Thursday, Mr Nketia said such a justification is untenable.

He could not fathom why tax payers’ monies are being splashed on such profligate expenditure when Ghanaians are languishing in abject poverty.

General Mosquito, as he is popularly called, blamed the government for fueling such a needless venture through Parliament.

Mr Nketia suggested that Prof. Ocquaye be given a bigger spectacle with huge lenses to enable him see all MPs during debates on the floor of Parliament.
