General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, says the dismissal of Minister of Energy, Boakye Agyarko, constitute bias and sends strong signals that he may have been used as a scapegoat.
He said the President should apologise to Ghanaians for what he describes as overseeing the ‘mess’.
“Yes Akufo-Addo has sacked Agyarko but I think he is only using Agyarko as a scapegoat because he is the Minister; I think we should blame the President for all these mess because he allowed it to happen,” he said.
The energy minister was sacked over the controversial Novation and amendment AMERI deal.
His dismissal took “immediate effect”.
It follows what the government claims to be a ‘misleading’ of the president in a new AMERI deal presented to Parliament a few days ago.
But Mr Asiedu Nketia says the Akufo-Addo government took the revised deal to Parliament fully aware of the huge cost involved.
Johnson Asiedu Nketia believes the President could not have been misled as it is being purported.

He said the President should be blamed for the development since there may be other people involved in the deal.
He called for a thorough investigation into the matter after the sacking of the Energy Minister.
“Akufo Addo knew what he was signing and went ahead to do it but because of public uproar he was forced to cancel the deal and we later hear that you have sacked a minister and you think it’s enough,” he asked on Accra-based Okay FM monitored by Adomonline.com.
