Atebubu MP donates vehicles, motorbikes to police to boost anti-robbery operations

The Member of Parliament for Atebubu-Amantin, Sanja Nanja, has donated two brand-new pickup vehicles and two motorcycles to the Ghana Police Service to strengthen anti-robbery efforts in the Atebubu District.

The brief ceremony, held at the Atebubu Police District Headquarters, saw District Police Commander ASP Julius Akpelime receive the items on behalf of the service.

The donation forms part of the MP’s broader commitment to enhancing security in the area.

Speaking to the media, Nanja said the gesture followed appeals he made to the Interior Minister and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) over the rising cases of robbery, particularly along the Atebubu-Amantin–Kumasi highway and surrounding communities.

“In addition to the support from the IGP and the Minister, I used part of my Common Fund to procure two motorcycles to improve police visibility and mobility,” he disclosed.

He further revealed that he had personally funded the repair of a broken-down police vehicle to restore its operational use, adding that more junior police officers are expected to be deployed to the district soon.

The MP encouraged individuals, organizations, and philanthropists to support the police in any way they can, stating, “We all have a role to play in making our communities safe.”

ASP Julius Akpelime, in his remarks, expressed gratitude to the MP and noted that the vehicles would significantly improve patrols, especially in remote areas.

“This support will help us respond swiftly to incidents and enhance our crime prevention efforts,” he said.

He urged residents to cooperate with the police by reporting suspicious behavior and called for the establishment of more community watchdog groups to complement police work.

The intervention is expected to boost security and restore public confidence in the Atebubu-Amantin Constituency.
