The Association of Women in the Media (ASWIM) has received the news of the promotion of Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo Danquah to the rank of Commissioner of Police (COP) with pride and excitement in recognition of her hard work over the years.

This feat has been achieved through the relentless pursuit of knowledge, courage and tenacity in ensuring that justice is brought to the doorsteps of the afflicted as well as ensuring that deviants in our society are put through interventions for their reformation.

ASWIM is convinced that Madam Addo Danquah’s elevation has placed her in a position which would enable a female to impact strongly on decisions for crime prevention and offer solutions to put the safety of all Ghanaians, particularly those that affect women and children at the core of policing in the country.

We are aware that this position comes with new challenges but have also not not lost sight of her track record and trust that she would continue to surge forward to be an inspiration to women not only in the Police Service but to the larger society.

Indeed, there is no doubt whatsoever that Madame Tiwaa has the ability and the determination to break the glass ceiling and make history in the ensuing years.

ASWIM holds dear the achievements of women in all strata of society and recogises the myriad of challenges that they have to surmount to achieve the balance we crave and yearn for at all levels of the society.

Most importantly, ASWIM shares the belief that the achievement of sustainable national development depends on achieving gender equality, especially at the decision-making and governance levels.

As it has been proven that gender equality stimulates economic growth, ASWIM calls for the provision of more opportunities for women in education and employment to accelerate Ghana’s socio-economic growth.

COP MAAME YAA TIWAA ADDO-DANQUAH, ASWIM offers you sincere congratulations and best wishes as you take up this new challenge.

Mavis Kitcher,
Interim President, ASWIM.
