The Asutifi North District Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in the Ahafo Region, DO3 Quansah Emmanuel, has raised concerns about the water-logged nature of the land on which the Kenyasi Fire Station sits, describing it as a major obstacle to effective emergency response.

In an interview with Adom News, DO3 Quansah explained that the poor state of the terrain makes it difficult for officers to move the fire tender quickly, especially during the rainy season.

“The fire tender often gets stuck in the mud, posing risks of delays and possible accidents, including vehicle overturning if drivers are not careful,” he noted, adding that the situation continues to affect the station’s ability to respond swiftly to emergencies.

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Asutifi North, Dr. Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, and Natalia Poku-Boansi, Lead for Social Performance and Communities at Newmont Ahafo South Mines, acknowledged the challenge in a separate interview with Adom News.

The remarks came after the MP, in collaboration with Newmont Gold Ghana, cut the sod for the construction of a concrete pavement at the frontage of the fire station.

Both officials described the area as “terrible whenever it rains” and said the pavement project is expected to provide lasting relief to the challenges the station has faced over the years.

While noting that the fire service faces other operational challenges, they stressed that addressing the water-logged nature of the station remains the most urgent priority.
