The Asutifi North Education Directorate in the Ahafo Region has expressed concern about the rising number of schoolchildren seen roaming the streets of Kenyasi in the evenings.
Robert Odoom, Deputy Director in charge of Monitoring and Supervision, told Adom News that many pupils, especially those at the basic level, abandon their studies after school hours to engage in activities such as watching television, selling goods, or operating tricycles and motorbikes.
He warned that these behaviors are detrimental to their academic performance.
Mr. Odoom described the situation as a serious threat to the children’s future and revealed that the Directorate has begun sensitizing parents through radio programmes and community gatherings to ensure their children remain at home after school.
Meanwhile, the headteacher of God’s Will School, Anthony Duah Yeboah, expressed concerns over the lack of government support for private schools.
He argued that private institutions have made significant contributions to improving education in Ghana and deserve assistance comparable to that given to public schools.
