The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asutifi North in the Ahafo Region, Hafiz Dauda, has raised concern over the rising number of motorbike accidents in the district and is calling for stiffer measures to address the issue.
Hafiz Dauda described the situation as alarming and stressed the urgent need for decisive action to curb the menace.
He explained that the rate at which riders—both commercial (okada) and private—overspeed, especially in Kenyasi, the district capital, is particularly worrying.
According to him, his checks reveal that in many fatal accidents, the riders themselves often survive, while innocent pedestrians and roadside vendors are the ones who end up losing their lives.
The DCE noted that the reckless use of motorbikes in the area poses a serious threat to public safety, especially for traders and pedestrians.
He emphasized that as the newly elected DCE and chairman of the District Security Council (DISEC), he would soon introduce bylaws aimed at tackling the problem.
