The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asutifi North, Hafiz Dauda, has raised concerns over the high rate of plastic pollution in Kenyasi.

Speaking to Adom News during a clean-up exercise in the town, he noted that plastics account for approximately 60 percent of waste collected in such activities, a situation he described as alarming.

Mr. Dauda explained that many gutters in the area are blocked by plastics, warning that if urgent measures are not implemented, the community could face flooding during the rainy season.

To address the problem, the district assembly plans to place waste bins at strategic points across the community to discourage littering. The DCE stated that once the bins are installed, anyone found dumping refuse indiscriminately on the streets will face sanctions under the assembly’s sanitation bylaws.

Meanwhile, Joshua Boateng, Youth Organiser for Kenyasi No. 2, appealed to residents not to dump household waste into the public bins. He noted that the youth association has already begun placing a few bins on the streets but observed that some residents continue to bring waste from their homes and dispose of it improperly.

Mr. Boateng urged the community to cooperate with the initiative to keep Kenyasi clean and reduce the risk of flooding.
