Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) have announced plans to stage a demonstration against Newmont Gold Ghana over what they describe as substandard town road construction in the area.
The planned protest was announced at a press conference held in Kenyasi, where the Assembly Member for the Asukese Electoral Area, Anane John Kwasi, said the demonstration will take place on January 20, 2026.

He explained that Assembly Members, CSOs, and the youth will embark on a protest and picketing exercise against the mining company over the quality of roads constructed in communities where it operates.
According to him, the affected communities include Kenyasi No.1, Kenyasi No.2, Ntotroso, Gyedu, and Womahinso.
Mr. Anane alleged that the double-seal town roads, locally known as sapete, constructed by Newmont do not last due to poor workmanship and the use of inferior materials.
He said several roads constructed in Gyedu, Ntotroso, and Womahinso have deteriorated in less than a year, stressing that residents will not allow similar works to be carried out in Kenyasi. He added that the communities are demanding asphalt roads instead.
Efforts by Adom News to reach Newmont Gold Ghana for its response were unsuccessful, as calls to the company went unanswered.
