Asunafo South gets mechanized boreholes to end water crisis

-

A philanthropist, Yaw Ampofo Adusei, has constructed eight mechanized boreholes worth GH¢440,000 for several communities in the Asunafo South District of the Ahafo Region to help end years of water scarcity.

The project, which spans communities in Kukuom, Kwapong, and Sankore, aims to provide residents with sustainable access to clean and safe drinking water.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony at Kukuom, Mr. Adusei told Adom News that the initiative was inspired by the daily struggles residents face in fetching potable water.

He revealed that each borehole cost about GH¢55,000 and urged traditional authorities to take responsibility for the maintenance and proper use of the facilities.

“There are areas in Kukuom, Kwapong, and Sankore where access to potable water has been a major challenge. I believe this project will help address that issue and improve living conditions,” he said.

Mr. Adusei also called on the chiefs and residents to protect the boreholes to ensure they serve their intended purpose for many years.

Residents of Kukuom, who were among the beneficiaries, expressed deep gratitude to the philanthropist, saying life had been difficult due to the lack of clean water. Many recounted how they previously shared water sources with cattle, posing serious health and hygiene risks.

“For years, we have struggled to find water for our daily needs. Sometimes, we fetched from the same place as animals. We are truly grateful for this support,” one resident said.

The commissioning event was attended by community leaders, chiefs, and residents, who praised Yaw Ampofo Adusei for his continued efforts to improve lives across the region.
