A section of cocoa farmers in the Asunafo South District have declared their Member of Parliament and Minister for Agriculture, Eric Opoku, “wanted” over recent cocoa price reductions and delayed payments.

Speaking to Adom News during an engagement with the Minority Caucus, farmer Abena Nyarko said the Minister has been absent from the constituency since the price cut and the failure to pay farmers for produce supplied since late last year.

She noted that the situation has left farmers frustrated, accusing the government of failing to honour its promises and demanding that the Minister return to explain the developments and apologise.

Meanwhile, a cocoa buyer at Sankore Kokooso, Sampson Obeng, also expressed concern over unpaid debts, revealing that he is owed GH¢700,000.

He warned that the situation has exposed buyers to threats from farmers and appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to intervene urgently to resolve the crisis.
