The Executive Director of the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII), Mary Awelana Addah, has criticised public officials who failed to declare their assets within the March 31 deadline, stating that they completely disrespected the President’s authority.
In an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, she expressed concern that the defaulters disregarded the directive, emphasizing that employees are expected to follow rules and regulations, and failure to do so should result in consequences.
“Employees are supposed to be guided by certain rules and regulations, and they must adhere to every directive because failure amounts to repercussions,” she said.
President Mahama on Monday, May 5, sanctioned appointees who had defaulted on declaring their assets, warning that failure to comply by May 7 would result in automatic dismissal.
Addah suggested that there is a need for these appointees to explain their inaction, considering the ample time they had to meet the deadline.
“Is it that they didn’t respect the president’s directive, or because there was something they didn’t understand in the asset declaration form? Why didn’t they declare in more than one month? These are the questions we should be asking ourselves,” she said. “Did they seek clarification from the Auditor General and not receive it?” she questioned.
