The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has dismissed a report by the Ministry of the Interior, which claimed that no evidence of violence was recorded in connection with a death during the 2024 general elections.
Speaking to party supporters in the Awutu Senya East Constituency during his five-day “Thank You” tour of the Central Region, Mr. Asiedu Nketia described the Ministry’s findings as unacceptable and suggested they undermine efforts to ensure accountability.
He argued that the report appears to protect perpetrators due to personal relationships or alliances.
“I have heard claims that there is no evidence of electoral violence in Kasoa. We are not children in this party. If we all agree that election-related violence is unacceptable, we must collectively work to stop it. We cannot cover up incidents of violence,” he stated.
Mr. Asiedu Nketia emphasized the need for strict punitive action against both the masterminds and the perpetrators of violence during the 2020 and 2024 elections to prevent similar incidents in the future.
He assured that the issue would continue to be pursued until those responsible are brought to justice, warning against trivializing or ignoring election-related violence.
He also urged all stakeholders to demonstrate genuine commitment to ending electoral violence in Ghana and to uphold principles of transparency, accountability, and justice.
