The Chief Executive Officer of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Julius Neequaye Kotey, has announced that the Ashanti Region will benefit from the government’s plan to establish dedicated hospitals for drivers.
Speaking at the commissioning of the DVLA Adum Ultra Centre in Kumasi, Mr. Kotey justified the need for a specialised hospital to cater to drivers.
He noted that several key sectors of the economy have their own health facilities and argued that drivers—who play a critical role in national development—also deserve a dedicated healthcare facility tailored to their needs.

“In Ghana, COCOBOD, the Ghana Police Service, the Military, and the Bank of Ghana all have hospitals, so there is a need to establish a hospital for drivers as well,” he said.
Mr. Kotey described the initiative as a necessary and long-overdue welfare intervention aimed at addressing the specific health needs of the transport workforce. He explained that the proposed hospitals would serve as referral centres for accident and burn cases, providing specialised care for victims.
“We are planning to set up DVLA drivers’ hospitals, and these hospitals will serve as referral centres for accident and burn cases,” he stated. “We selected Accra, Kumasi, and Tamale as the locations for the first phase of the project, based on our projections and assessments.”
Meanwhile, Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene assured that robust security measures would be put in place at the Adum Ultra Centre once it transitions to 24-hour operations to ensure the safety of both staff and clients.
According to him, the centre is expected to significantly improve service delivery and enhance the overall driving experience in the Ashanti Region and across the country.
